Pamela Gauci, Senior Analyst – Conduct Supervision, MFSA

Pamela Gauci joined the MFSA in July 2019 as an Analyst within the Conduct Supervision function (Banking). She was promoted to the role of Senior Analyst within the same Function after 7 months, a role that she still occupies. She loves the fact that working within regulation one has the opportunity to actively contribute to policy making and influence important decisions. We chatted with Pamela about the best career advice she has received, her experience representing the Authority within a European supervisory committee and other ways that the MFSA supports employee career development.

How did the MFSA support your career development?

At the MFSA, employees have access to high quality training provided by both local as well as international industry experts. Moreover, employees have the opportunity to participate and contribute during committees at the European Supervisory Authorities. Personally, I am a lead officer on the Standing Committee on Consumer Protection and Financial Innovation at the European Banking Authority (EBA). Through this committee I can learn from the experience of other National Competent Authorities whilst at the same time contribute with valuable information that assists in decision-making at EBA level.

What is an interesting fact about your job that people may not know about?

My role within Conduct Supervision is to ensure that the consumer is continuously protected and is not exposed to potential detriment as a result of purchasing or using a financial services product or service.

What is the best piece of advice that you’ve received that has helped you in your career?

By believing in yourself you can achieve great things. When it comes to career progression, direction is more important than speed.
