Overview
The event, organised by Banking Supervision, is designed to provide banking professionals with crucial insights into regulatory changes, reporting requirements and best practices for data governance. The objective is to foster discussions around improving the quality, accuracy and compliance of regulatory reporting while addressing the latest industry developments. The agenda will cover several key areas, such as a review of banks' performance in regulatory reporting. This will include trends in resubmissions, supervisory expectations and recommendations for enhancing accuracy. Updates on Pillar 3 disclosures, based on recent stock-taking questionnaire results and supervisory assessments, will also be highlighted. Attendees will receive insights into upcoming changes in the reporting framework, particularly the new requirements under CRR3, reporting format advancements like XBRL-CSV and updates to the data point model. A separate session will focus on the implementation of the EBA’s guidelines on historical data resubmissions, with an emphasis on how these changes affect institutions. Best practices in data governance will be outlined, emphasizing the standards required to ensure robust data quality, integrity and security. The event will conclude with a panel discussion addressing the challenges and benefits of increased reporting requirements for both banks and regulators.

Head, Banking Supervision, MFSA
Catherine Galea
Catherine Galea is the MFSA’s Head of Banking Supervision. She commenced her career with the Central Bank of Malta in 1990 before joining the MFSA in 2002 in order to pursue her career within Banking Supervision and in 2010 was assigned the responsibility of setting up the banking section within the Authorisations function. Later, Catherine was appointed as Head of Banking Supervision and was also the Malta member within the SSM Supervisory Board. From 2020 till 2023, Catherine was subsequently entrusted with setting up and heading the Supervisory Quality Assurance function within the MFSA. Throughout her career, Catherine was also responsible for transposing and implementing various pieces of EU legislation in the field of banking supervision and has led various supervisory teams and working groups within the Authority. She actively participates and represents the MFSA in various international fora. Furthermore, she is a frequent lecturer at local educational institutions on various regulatory issues, including the Capital Requirements Regulation/Directive and Risk Management. Catherine is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB) and holds an MSc degree in Finance from the University of Leicester (UK).
Head, Data Management and BI, MFSA
Daniela Bagnaschi
Daniela Bagnaschi was appointed Head of Data Management and Business Intelligence and tasked with the setting up of this new function within the Authority in July 2019. Daniela is an experienced change management professional, having occupied diverse senior IT and business-related positions within executive management teams in the banking and telecommunications industries. She has a strong background in IT, particularly database technologies and advanced business analytics, with over 15 years’ experience working within local and multi-cultural teams. Throughout her career, Daniela has worked with and delivered cutting-edge technologies to end users, as well as led teams to deliver commercial products to market and conduct advanced analytics and profiling. Daniela Bagnaschi holds an undergraduate degree, B.Sc. (Hons) in Mathematics and Informatics from the University of Malta, as well as an MBA in General Strategic Management from Henley Business School of the University of Reading, UK. She was also selected to join a global leadership programme for a renowned multi-national company early on in her career.

Roberta Darmanin
Roberta Darmanin holds a B.Sc. degree in Statistics, Banking and Finance. She joined the Authority in 2011 and spent four years working at the Banking Supervision function. Between 2016 and 2018 Roberta worked on various regulatory and statistical projects at the Securities and Market Supervision and the Resolution functions. Thereafter she returned to Banking Supervision where she was tasked to set up and lead the Data Team. She now leads both Data and Policy teams within Banking Supervision.

Nikolaos Grapsas
Nikolaos Grapsas is a Deputy Head within the Baking Supervision function at MFSA. Before joining the Authority in September 2019, he worked for 16 years in large Greek commercial banks, assuming different roles in Risk Management. Currently he is the local coordinator in one of the MFSA/ECB Joint Supervisory Teams and holder of an MSc in Applied Statistics and Operational Research.

Tomasz Kolbuszewski
Tomasz Kolbuszewski has been working with the Banking Supervision Data Team of the Malta Financial Services Authority since June 2022, having previously worked for five years with the Financial Stability function of the Authority. His main interests include innovative and automated tools and techniques for data extraction and analysis. During his time at the MFSA, he participated in several analytical projects concerning financial stability, systemic risk and banking sector performance. Tomasz holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Rzeszów, specializing in Banking and financial markets.

Joanne Spiteri Azzopardi
Joanne Spiteri Azzopardi is a Senior Analyst within Banking Supervision's Data Team. She joined the Malta Financial Services Authority in March 2019 and since then she was extensively involved in the implementation of various projects related to developments in the supervisory data process. She represents the Authority in several working groups of the ECB. Joanne holds a Master’s Degree and a Higher Diploma in Business Administration & Management from the University of Malta and a Diploma in Financial Advice.

Whitney Micallef
Whitney Micallef is a Senior Analyst in Banking Supervision's Data Team and holds a B.Sc. degree in Financial Services Management. Since starting her career at the MFSA in April 2021, she has contributed to a number of working groups within the European Banking Authority. Her primary focus is on improving data quality through the use of automated tools, with the goal of enhancing the accuracy of reported data.
Head of Banking Supervision Data Division, ECB
Giancarlo Pellizzari
Giancarlo Pellizzari is Head of the Banking Supervision Data Division at the ECB. The division is responsible for managing all supervisory data of the SSM and data quality assessment. His team is also responsible of SSM dashboards, KRIs, participates in on-site inspections and publishes statistics. Giancarlo started his carrier at Ernst & Young, then he joined the Belgian competent authority, then Dexia Group and, later, BNY Mellon.
Head of Reporting and Transparency Unit, EBA
Pilar Gutierrez
Pilar Gutierrez is responsible for the Unit in charge of reporting and transparency, including the definition of the supervisory reporting and the Pillar 3 frameworks, and together with the Statistics Unit, for the implementation of the EBA data strategy and data hub.

Owen Camilleri
Owen is the Group Chief Accounting Officer at MeDirect Bank (Malta) plc, overseeing financial, tax, and regulatory reporting for the Maltese and Belgian banks that fall under ECB supervision. Earlier, at PwC, he managed banking audits and regulatory advisory projects at local and foreign offices. He chairs the Malta Bankers' Association's Accounting , Financial Reporting and Data Standing Committee.
